Iconic music venue set to welcome young Sheffield performers

Final rehearsals are taking place as 33 students prepare to take to the stage at one of London’s most iconic venues. It has hosted everything from the NME Awards to the legendary X Factor boot camp sessions and the British Comedy Awards.

The indigo at The 02 has a capacity of 2,800 and has many world-class musicians, comedians and performers grace its stages. On Sunday 18thNovember, students at Razzamataz Sheffield will make their own debut on its stage and will join 15 other schools within the Razzamataz network to put on a gala performance.

 

“For many seasoned professionals, performing at The 02 will be the pinnacle of their career, so the opportunity to be able to offer this for children and teenagers is incredible,” says Helen Bell, Principal of Razzamataz Sheffield. “For the students, their families and our staff, this will be a day that stays with them for the rest of their lives. Making memories and giving our students the opportunity to reach their potential is at the core of what we believe at Razzamataz.”

Students and their teachers are busy putting final touches to their piece called ‘Off With Her Head’. The performance will take the audience on a journey to discover the weird and wonderful world of Alice in Wonderland through Commercial dance.

The BBC Dragons’ Den backed theatre school franchise regularly enjoys partnering up with household names to create exciting opportunities for the students. In the past, students have performed at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End as well as Disneyland Paris.

“The high-profile positioning of our brand has led to many exciting opportunities and this is something that we are very proud of and continue to grow,” adds Helen. “We are also very fortunate to be able to support our local community with various performance opportunities and fundraising events such as our upcoming performance at Sheffield Christmas Light Switch On and our Halloween Disco raising money for the Future Fund.

Razzamataz Sheffield offer a varied curriculum to create ‘triple threat performers’. During the singing, dancing and acting classes, the children are exposed to a range of genres from street dance and commercial singing through to more traditional West End musical theatre to make them rounded performers. Throughout the classes, the emphasis is on having a good time, making friends and getting fit through having fun.
