Creating happy and healthy habits for children

Creating happy and healthy habits for children

As the new term approaches, it might be time to encourage kids to make some healthy habits that will last a lifetime. Did you know that only one in four children get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day, and this drops as children get older and more demands are placed on them at school.

The benefits of physical activity
Exercise is vital to the health and well-being of children. Physical activity helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints. It can also help children fall asleep faster and sleep well. There are a huge number of mental health benefits of exercise too. These include boosting confidence and self-esteem, improved attention, and behaviour at school, reduces anxiety and depression and fosters teamwork and friendship.
Not all children enjoy traditional sport and the associated competitiveness, which is why performing arts is an excellent alternative. Dance, drama and singing, work the body and mind but children are having so much fun, they are not even aware they are exercising.

How to encourage healthy habits
  • Be a good role model.
  • Keep things positive.
  • Get the whole family moving for at least 60 minutes of activity per day.
  • Less screen time and more sleep.
  • Set small, realistic goals.
  • Pick healthy rewards for good behaviour.
  • Try to eat as a family for some of the week.
Being part of our Razzamataz community will help your child learn many new life skills as well as enjoy all the healthy benefits of participating in performing arts classes.
