Building back resilience in our young people

Boredom, isolation, uncertainty and lack of control have all been factors in lockdown. Findings from research across the UK and overseas has shown there has been a general worsening of mental wellbeing, especially anxiety, loneliness and depression.
A survey carried out with 2,438 young people between the ages of 13-25 by Young Minds showed the following:

  • 67% believed the pandemic will have a long-term negative effect on their mental health.
  • Worries included whether friendships would recover, loss of education and prospects of finding work.
  • 79% or respondents agreed that their mental health would start to improve when most restriction were lifted but some expressed caution about future lockdowns.

The charity has made a number of recommendations to Government including that clubs, which provide vital early mental health support, survive the economic impact of the pandemic.

At Razzamataz, we provide a safe space for young people to express themselves through the performing arts. Through our fun and high quality performing arts training in dance, drama and singing, young people will learn vital life skills including resilience and how to express themselves, both essential for positive mental health and good physical fitness.
What your child will enjoy at Razzamataz Sheffield:
  • Being physically active
  • Helping to build confidence
  • Learning new performing arts skills
  • Building friendships
  • Self-expression
  • Communication skills
  • Resilience

Hear from a parent of one of our Senior students:

“I just wanted to take 5 minutes to thank you all for your amazing work especially over this last difficult year and for all your hard work keeping Razz classes going. My son has found school home learning a challenge at times and staying motivated has been hard, he has looked forward to his Razz sessions every week and always appears from his room afterwards smiling.

Your point rewards have been a great incentive and his recent win of a private lesson couldn’t have come at a better time, he was so deflated from having to self-isolate so his 1 to 1 session with Becci was just what he needed, he came downstairs buzzing, telling me all about it. He really enjoyed it and learnt a lot about comedy.

It’s been great that he has still been able to join in Razz on zoom whilst isolating; he’s found it great being carried around the room on the iPad and loved his appearance on Instagram propped up on a chair! Razz staff always seem to go that extra mile to make students feel valued and this has continued even on zoom.

So thank you to you all for been a constant over these testing time and keeping my son and I’m sure all your students going when they needed a focus on something they love”
